Superintendent Dr. Raymond Garrett, D. Div.

       

Supt Dr. Garrett is a faithful man of God, family man, husband and father.  He was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee and is a product of this “Grande Olde Church of God in Christ.”  He has developed into a dynamic bible teacher and a scholar who has matriculated through undergraduate and graduate school receiving his Bachelor’s degree in Management and his Master’s of Ministry degree in Clinical Christian Counseling.  The academic institutions in which he has pursued his studies are as follows:  Liberty University, Trinity Theological Seminary, C.H. Mason Seminary at ITC, and a graduate internship in clinical pastoral counseling and chaplaincy at Emory University Center for Pastoral Studies.  Most recently he has been awarded an honorary Doctorate degree in Divinity by the prestigious St. Thomas Christian College.   Pastor Garrett has served in numerous positions in the church body to include appointment as Superintendent  of  Marietta District in February/2008,  Chairman of the Marietta District - 4 years;  Assistant Jurisdictional Secretary – 3 years,  Senior Pastor – 12 years,  Executive Committee for Pastors & Elders Council – 3 years.  He was called to the gospel ministry and licensed in 1991.  He received ordination as an Elder in 1998 and was pleased to be able to take the gospel into the  community.  Having a strong fervency for the ministry of evangelistic outreach, Pastor Garrett has made it his mission to encourage others in ministry to stay focused on the mandate of soul winning.  He has completed various seminar and training sessions in leadership development, church administration and conflict management.  He is a Licensed Clinical Christian Counselor and Therapist by the Georgia Board of Examiners, Board Certified Pastoral Counselor and Certified Grief Counselor.  He currently works as a Spiritual Care Coordinator/Chaplain Hospice and Palliative Care and also as a Chaplain for Fulton County Sheriff Department.  His diverse experience includes previously working in Public Health and Compliance for the past 21 years for agencies such as Centers for Disease Control, Georgia Department of Human Services/Public Health Division and City of Atlanta/Department of Aviation.  Dr. Garrett indicates that he is highly enthused that the Lord has shifted him to focus most of his time and energy entirely in the area of ministry.  Also in his ministerial acumen and pursuit for greater wisdom relating to the call of ministry, he cites that God empowers and equips us to gain something that can be used to better the lives of people and to help restore them back to a place of wholeness.  His foundational scripture that serves as the beacon and mandate for his faith and practice is Micah 6:8,  “He hath shewed, O man, what is good: and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and love mercy, and walk humbly with thy God?”
